                                                                              On April 25, 2020, Emily G in a field. The explanation behind this photo is during quarantine, there's not much to do. Emily and I had been quarantine together so being together is safe. We decided to social distance and drive around to see the types of shots we could get. I noticed this big empty field on the side of the road and thought maybe we should pull off. While walking around the field, Emily seemed so photogenic, so I snapped a few shots of her. This was one of the shots I got that day.



Mug Shot:
April 26, 2020, Emily G in the hills. Another boring day in quarantine, we decided to do the same thing we had done before. Emily and I got in the car and drove until we found a cool spot. Our intentions were just to explore the town we live in. We drove up into the fancy hills in Gresham and stopped on the side of the road. We were walking around and when I looked over at her I quickly snapped this shot. I feel like to really shows the "quarantine emotion." No one is happy about staying inside all the time, and I feel like I really captured that emotion in this photo.

While reading “It’s What I Do,” by Lysney Addario, I learned to take risks within my photography. To not be afraid to share the truth with the public and make sure to get every last detail you can, to give a clear story and explanation as to what’s going on. At the beginning of the book, she talks about going to Afganistan and preparing to take photos of the war. She and a few of her colleagues were in a car watching as rocket-propelled grenades went off. Debating if they should get out of the car or not, they did. Their next dilemma was how to approach people. Do they explain they’re photojournalists? This is something that I can connect the dots with what’s going on today. These protests are going on worldwide, and if a photojournalist goes to one, do they approach it as a job? Or do they join in the protest if they support the matter as well? It comes down to safety. Hello! My name is Paige and this is my first year to LBCC. I am currently majoring in Childhood Development and plan to transfer to Texas State next year to begin my Elementary Education studies. I moved to Corvallis in September but I am from Portland. I enjoy photography. I used to shoot a lot when I was in high school and before I moved. I never took a class or really learned the setting on a camera, I just went with it. My 3 goals in this class are: 1. To learn the different settings and things I can use to make my photos more "interesting." 2. See other people's photos and learn a thing or two from them! 3. For this assignment, I was super conflicted about what I should photograph. Then I realized, with everything going on in the world right now, the protests and such, why not capture that? While in the Zoom on Monday morning, we talked about how photojournalists could go to protests like the ones in Portland and distance themselves and make it known that they're only there to capture the matter. Earlier in the week when I started this assignment, the Portland protests weren't the safest and my parents didn't really want me to put myself in dangerous situations if I actually went to one.
