Second Blog Post

In the midst of this coronavirus, I am STAYING INSIDE! I was in Portland first when it all got super out of hand, but I came back to Corvallis and haven't been outside in almost 3 weeks. I think I might be going crazy. I think the thing that sucks the most, is it's beginning to be really nice outside! That sucks to just look at it. My family, roommates and I are coping with the virus outbreak by staying inside. Being aware of who's around us and who they've been around. Only going to the grocery store if it's really necessary. Just taking precautions with really anything we do.

Being stuck inside and having to do school from home is nice actually. I did online high school for my junior and senior year, so I'm somewhat used to this. I will say, I am able to focus on my work a little more and really revise things more than twice to make sure everything is how I want it. 

A little more about me. When I'm all finished with my degree, I plan on teaching in Texas. If all goes as planned, the degree I receive will allow me to teach grades 1-8. I don't mind which one I teach. I chose LBCC because my sister goes to OSU and needed a roommate. I wanted to experience living on my own and kind of growing up. So, I enrolled here. I am 18 years old. I have a summer birthday. My favorite class is writing, I have a thing for it. Lastly, my prized possession is any of my guitars.

While reading “It’s What I Do,” by Lysney Addario, I learned to take risks within my photography. To not be afraid to share the truth with the public and make sure to get every last detail you can, to give a clear story and explanation as to what’s going on. At the beginning of the book, she talks about going to Afganistan and preparing to take photos of the war. She and a few of her colleagues were in a car watching as rocket-propelled grenades went off. Debating if they should get out of the car or not, they did. Their next dilemma was how to approach people. Do they explain they’re photojournalists? This is something that I can connect the dots with what’s going on today. These protests are going on worldwide, and if a photojournalist goes to one, do they approach it as a job? Or do they join in the protest if they support the matter as well? It comes down to safety. Hello! My name is Paige and this is my first year to LBCC. I am currently majoring in Childhood Development and plan to transfer to Texas State next year to begin my Elementary Education studies. I moved to Corvallis in September but I am from Portland. I enjoy photography. I used to shoot a lot when I was in high school and before I moved. I never took a class or really learned the setting on a camera, I just went with it. My 3 goals in this class are: 1. To learn the different settings and things I can use to make my photos more "interesting." 2. See other people's photos and learn a thing or two from them! 3. For this assignment, I was super conflicted about what I should photograph. Then I realized, with everything going on in the world right now, the protests and such, why not capture that? While in the Zoom on Monday morning, we talked about how photojournalists could go to protests like the ones in Portland and distance themselves and make it known that they're only there to capture the matter. Earlier in the week when I started this assignment, the Portland protests weren't the safest and my parents didn't really want me to put myself in dangerous situations if I actually went to one.
